Quantock House made the news headlines when the Royal Marines paid an unusual visit to Quantum’s site in Taunton town centre.
A crowd gathered outside the derelict building to watch a staged assault by the members of 40 Commando who were using the site for training practice.
The group was practising techniques that could help to prepare them in the event of a terrorist or enemy force taking control of a building.
Sgt. Adam Lesley explained that whilst their exercises usually took place in mountainous terrain or the sea that they had been developing their urban skills in more recent years. He said:
“Finding suitable training facilities in the UK is quite difficult, but Quantock House is ideal for us.”
Quantum has successfully gained planning consent to develop a retirement community on the site of the former 1960s office block in early 2017.
